Launch YC: Pangolin – Open-source secure gateway to private networks

"Secure gateway to private networks"

TL;DR:
Pangolin is an open-source cloud and self-hostable alternative to Cloudflare Tunnels, Zscaler ZPA, and Ngrok. Pangolin provides a simple way to securely expose applications on private networks with identity-aware access control and high availability. They have seen incredible early traction since they launched 5 months ago: 12,600+ GitHub stars, 140,000+ installs, 2,700+ Discord members.

Founded by Milo Schwartz & Owen Schwartz

Owen and Milo Schwartz (brothers) who previously worked together as founding engineers at a successful smart mobility startup, working on connectivity and automation solutions for public infrastructure. They are passionate about building the next generation of simple networking tools.

The problem:

Providing users with secure access to internal tools and infrastructure is cumbersome for both end users and administrators. They're forced to manage complex VPN clients, servers, and network configurations that create friction and operational overhead. Traditional and mesh VPN approaches require layered ACL management to control which users can access specific resources, turning simple access requests into complex network engineering problems.

Their solution:

Drop in the Pangolin connector in your network, and:

  • Expose anything to the internet: Instantly create a secure tunnel with your domain and SSL to internal dashboards like Grafana, or any other services on your private network and access via web browsers.
  • Manage access control with ease: Grant access to your resources with user and role-based permissions, PIN codes, temporary share links, or email OTPs. Bring your existing users by integrating an external identity provider.
  • Own your infrastructure: Self-host your own Pangolin Nodes, so data flows through your servers, and our cloud will handle coordination and failover for out-of-the-box high availability.

Deployment options:

  • Enterprise: Self-host the entire system on-premises with complete control over all system components.
  • Hybrid: Self-host Pangolin Nodes on internal infrastructure while leveraging their cloud service for automatic failover coordination.
  • Cloud: Fully managed service where organizations only run network connectors to expose resources.
